Going to gym make me feel down!
I've heard that going to the gym should leave me feeling energetic and happy but after I gym I feel really down... bordering on depression. It lasts a couple of hours. Could there be a medical reason for this. I know the brain releases different chemicals when exercising... could there be an imbalance?
Dear Cowlip,
You should be feeling better after gym – your body makes endorphins when exercising, which is supposed to make you feel better! But if you are a introvert and the gym is overcrowded and noisy and you over exercise, you could feel worse after a session! Maybe you should let an instructor look at your program to ensure that it is the right level for you. If you don’t like crowds or noise, try going at a quieter time. Some people just hate gyms – isn’t there another kind of activity that will give you exercise (like dancing) that you will enjoy more?
