Hands swell in the night
I am a 56year old female, bloodpressure 120/80, general good health, but lately my hands swell at night while I am asleep. I normally sleep on my sides, favouring the left side, and sometimes my hands become so swollen that I can hardly close them. When I get up and move around the swelling goes down after a while. I am on HRT (Climara), could that be a cause of this swelling, or is my circulation a problem?

Dear Mandy

Thank you for visiting health24.com.

It is normal for a lady of your age to retain water. I therefore, suggest that you take a mild diuretic for the swelling. There is no pathological reason for the swelling of your hands and you should not worry about this. If it is however, really troublesome, I suggest that you take the diuretic.

Kind regards
