I believe I've got hemorrhoids but not the type that hangs out already... I think it's the start where it's just inside. It's been giving trouble every now and again but it goes away with times. I think it's time I go see a doctor about this. I am however very shy so just would like to know from you what I can expect from the visit. What questions might be asked and how long will I have to lie there exposed (if at all). I'm still very young so you can imagine that this is bothering me because I believed people only suffer from this at an older age. What treatments will I have to follow? Should I just maybe leave it since it heals by itself after a while before coming back? Can I medicate myself or do I have to see a doctor. Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your help on this!

Dear Veryshy
The doctor will ask you about the stool, whether it is very hard, or painful to pass or if you feel a cutting pain when you go to the toilet. He may ask you about diet, and about exercise. He will probably ask you to lie on your side, facing away from him, and to pull your legs up to your navel and your pants down only at the back. He should put a towel or some kind of cover over your bum. He may need to feel with his finger inside the anus to feel if there are any tears or hemorroids inside - this takes about 30 seconds ( and he wears a glove - so don't worry).
Just remember that this is just as part of our work as looking into ears or throats and you do not embarras the doctor by complaining about a hemorroid! If we did not see our way open to examine the odd places too, we wouldn't be in this job!
