Jaw clicking
When I yawn or open my mouth wide my jaw makes a clicking noise. It has not been painful although last night I had a big? yawn and when it clicked my jaw was uncomfortable for at least a half an hour after. What can be the cause and do I need to worry?
Hi Lee,
Your temperomandibular joint has a cartilage in it which moves when you open your mouth. Sometimes it slips ( causing the click) and sometimes you can "catch" it between the two bones ( which cause the uncomfortable feeling). It is good to let a orthodontist just check out the way you bite, you may be putting a lot of stress on it and it can give you chronic headaches and develop artrititis in later life.
