kidney stones
My husband had kidney stones for the second time in 11 months. I would like to know if any diet would help, or should he elimenate any specific foods, drinks, etc?
He does not drink any water and claims that cooldrink and coffee are made from water.
Please help, as we are scared it is going to happen again.
Thank you.

Dear CW,
Cooldrinks and coffee has salts and all sorts of other things in it - caffeine actually makes you lose water! He must drink water or soda water or flavoured water. (At least 8 glasses a day) My dad also hates drinking water, he says he is scared that he is going to rust.... But this is unfortunately needed if you are prone to kidney stones. He could cut down on calcium containing foods like cheese, lots of milk and icecreams and jogurts - depending on what kind of stones he gets. Some people get calcium stones, other urate stones - then you have to cut down on too much red meat.
