Malaria Recovery Period
Hi Doc,
I have a friend who was bitten by the dreaded Malaria mozzie around the 1st January. He started feeling sick (body sore, fever etc) on the 14th January. He was admitted to hospital only 4 days later as he was originally mis-diagnosed as flu virus. He was in ICU last week but has since been discharged from hospital over the weekend. He is very tired and not feeling himself yet. Could you advise when he will be back to his normal self and up and about again? Is it normal to feel so tired afterwards and is it best to just rest and "sleep" himself better?

Me, it all depends on how bad the malaria was. If he developed severe anaemia or a complication like kidney failure, it may take more than a month for him to be his old self again. The best person to ask would be his treating physician. Good luck.
