Muscle or glands?
Hi Doc

I always get what feels to be an ear ache but is actually muscles that are tense. Doc has previously prescribed anti inflamitories.

Now i have what feels to be this bruise/ sore feeling - similar to the ear ache pain but it is running from my ear along the side of the oesophagus. really sore when I swollow.

I do not have a cold or anything - I am stressed at work so could be due to stress??

HI Helen
I am thinking of a few options - could be heartburn that push back into the esophagus when you sleep, causing burning and inflammation, could be inflammation of the muscle running from your jaw to the front of your breastbone, could be infection in glands in your neck - Painful swallowing always need checking out, please let your doctor have a look.
