Muscle spasms/twitches in toddler
Hi there,

At age 11-12months my daughter had slight muscle twitch/spasm - she would pull up one of her shoulders to her head. It was an involuntary twitch which occurred when she was tired, usually at night.

At her 12 month check I mentioned it to her pead who said it was normal in some children and should disappear - and it did.

My daughter is 20 months old now and the twitch/spasm has re-appeared in a more exaggerated form. I've only seen it at night (again, when she seems tired). She now pulls up both shoulders as if she's shrugging, with her hands turned outward.

She has no other symptoms and continues with what she was busy with the moment it stops - it lasts for but a second or two. Her fine and gross motor skills are excellent for her age. She is maybe a bit behind in her vocabulary, but she is talking and learning new words - nothing to worry about.

Should I rush to the dr again, is this a sign of something worse, or will it pass again?

Michelle, the safest would be to see your paediatrician and even to have an EEG done to exclude epilepsy. Good luck.
