Nickel Allergy
My 19 year old daughter is studying to be a chef in Cape Town and has just been diagnosed with a nickel allergy. She is asthmatic and suffers from bouts of eczema but it has been under control for years now. This is the first I have heard of her being allergic to nickel and want to know apart from aterax is there another tablet you can recommend? Aterex makes her very tired and she works long shifts as well as studying and cant afford to be tired all the time. The dermatoligist has given her a range of creams which is helping and told her what to avoid (which is virtually impossiable as nickel is everywhere) and she is off Aterex for now but would like to know a different tablet incase she has a bad spell again. The GP had put her on Fexo which the dermi said is wrong? Do you know the nickel content of tea? Is herbal less than regular? Please help!! Thank you!!

Dear Elle

Thank you for visiting

I recommend that she gets a Celestone Soluspan injection, as this will supress a reaction to nickle. She can also take a tablet like Lorano in the accute phase of her nickle allergy. Celestamine is a stronger anti-histamine with a cortico-steroid. This will eleviate her symptoms as well as suppress her nickle allergies. Unfortunately, Celestamine will make her drowsy.

I am not certain about the nickle content in herbal teas.

Kind regards
