Hi Cyber Doc

I was diagnosed with polymyositis by my Neurologist. I am currently using prednisone tablets.

I would like to know all the symptoms that are associated with this disease, if it is possible please provide me with a webaite name or book, which I can get more information.

I would also like to know if there is a special diete I need to follow to improve my condition.

Thanks in advance.

LP, the initial symptom generally is proximal muscle weakness or rash. (Patients with inclusion body myositis may present with distal weakness equal to or greater than proximal weakness.) Muscle tenderness and pain are usually less dramatic than weakness. Rash, polyarthralgias, Raynaud's phenomenon, dysphagia, pulmonary disease, and constitutional complaints, notably fever, fatigue, and weight loss, may also occur.
I don’t know of a book or a website that deals with it specifically, but I’ll have a look for you. You will probably have to look under connective tissue disorders and work from there.
There is no specific diet that I know of, but you can try DietDoc as this is more her field of expertise. Good luck.
