sell by dates on perishable articles
This may be the wrong site to ask this question but I would like to know what regulations are in place to prevent supermarkets from selling food that has either reached its sell by date or is very close to it. My son recently who is 16 recently purchased some pasta which had reached its sell by date that day and subsequently got food poisoning. When approaching the supermarket about the problem they insisted that they were allowed to mark the articles down and sell them.
As far as I know this is not allowed to happen, is my information outdated or not?
Thank You.

Dear Barbara,
As far as I know they are not allowed to sell food with a expired sell by date. You could ask your municipality's health inspector to check this supermarket.
