Vasomotor rhinitis / Singular - still struggling!!
Hi Doc

Is there anything that I can take besides Singluar for VMR ie a medication that does not allow the veins to swell up ie no matter what I am exposed to, the nasal veins won't swell. Am I just dreaming or is there a medication that can do this. I have taken Singular for 3 weeks to try to get relief from symptoms, but I am not sure how long I need to take it before I will feel it working. Is there a Doc in SA (besides yourself) that is an expert on VMR - that can give advise and guidance on how to live with the condition. I have tried Sterimar as you suggested but it caused severe swelling - I think I am sensitive to salt as even swimming in the sea aggrevates the condition.

Thanks for your continued help - you gonna have to send us readers and address one day - I think we owe you a HUGE box of chocolates!!

Maureen, the next step would be to try a cortisone containing nasal spray. Singulair® is primarily indicated for the treatment of asthma, so you don’t have to lose hope because it doesn’t work. I know of no doctor that specialises in just VMR, but most ENT specialist will be able to help you. Good luck and thank you for the nice words (make it biltong and I’ll come pick it up myself). :-)
