what to do about husband's snoring (cos i swear i might strangle him in his sleep!)
Hey there.

just want to know whether there is anything i can do to stop my husband snoring. Because of it I either can't get to sleep at night or if i do then the snoring wakes me up.

He used to only snore when he was very tired but now he snores every single night. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow - I swear its almost instantaneous while it takes me a good 5 - 10 minutes to follow suit.

In what position he sleeps is irrelevant. I've made him sleep on his back, his side, his stomach - they all produce the same result and the snoring starts 10 - 15 seconds after he falls asleep - so its not difficult for me to see how he is lying. I've tried to make him sleep on less pillows so he is more or less straight. I've also propped him up on more pillows to see if that helps.

PLEASE help -Its driving me insane. I've run out of ideas and i'm losing out on sleep

Dear Grrr
All my sympathy! Snoring is caused by the soft palate relaxing and closing the airway at the back of your throat. Reasons can be allergies, overweight, the anatomy of his face, enlarged adenoids etc. Although there are lots of potions, pills, stickers, mouth guards , pillows etc, the only failsafe way to stop it is to go to an ENT surgeon and let them laser that slack tissue away, which opens the airway. Snoring is just as bad for him - can cause high bloodpressure, sleep apnoea, and heart problems.
