3,5 year old emotional problems
I recently separated from my drug abusing husband, my child who is 3,5 years old is really taking it hard, he has become clingy, which i can understand, tearful angry little boy and i don't know how to deal with him. He has recently started a new creche as well, now when i get home in the evenings he changes into a little monster he cries and throws huge tantrums yet during the day when he is with my parents he is the sweetest little angel. I am at my wits end as i am not a very patient person and he is getting on my nerves, i am trying to be there for him but he pushes my buttons too far, how can i handle him without seeming cruel?

As you say, the clinginess is very understandable. He may blame you for the separation from his dad, as he's too young to understand the harm his dad was causing and could cause. But any child who changes from angel to monster is proving that their behaviour is dependent on their surroundings and how they are handled. The Little Angel and Supernanny shows on DSTV show perfectyl how some simple rules can change that behaviour, and if you check the archives of this forum, you'll find I have outlined the methods used, many times. If you could take him to see a good local child psychologist or counsellor dealing with kids, a couple of sessions to plan a routine by which you can respond to his tantrums and misbehaviour, could bring the situation under control more quickly than you might think
