Champix and Bipolar ilness
Hi Doc
I really want to stop smoking and want to give Champix a try. I am however bipolar and have heard that Champix can potentially cause some nasty psychiatric side-effects. Would you advise a person suffering from a mental illness to take a chance with Champix?
First, congratulations on your excellent good sense in deciding to stop smoking. Yes, I have also heard of some nasty side-effects from using Champix, even with people without the aded potential risk factor of an illness like bipolar and its treatment, as drug inerations uld need to be considered. Maybe discuss this with your treating doc to consider your diagnosis and drug treatments. I'd think non-drug methods like the book mentioned, about which I have heard some good things, and possible CBT style counselling, should be seriously considered.
