Anxiety - need help
I was smashed and grabbed on my way to work - 2 mths ago. Now I live with this fear. I'm fine most of the time and can drive arround, people selling at robots makes me on my nerves. But small things can upset me very quickly.
We went away for this weekend and run into car trouble - I just couldn't handle the situation. Had the feeling; if somebody came to us, we can't get away we are stuck. This anxiety continued through the weekend. I couldn't sleep at night or eat because I was convinced we are going to be attached (stayed on a farm, no cellphone reception).
My husband agreed that for the next while if we go away allone for a weekend we should stay in a town, and if we go for a farm type of accomodation we should take friends with. He also feels that I should see somebody to work through my fears.
I did speak to somebody just after the incident and didn't feel that the person gave me any comfort or helped me coping with the situation. I don't want to spend a lot of money and in the end they just put me on depression pills - this should be the last option. I also don't want to continue my life like this I NEED to get through this situation.
How would I know who to go and see, if you start asking people/friends everybody will give you a different answer. I need to get to the right person first time. Opening the yellow pages is just not going to do it for me.
What should I do?

Soudns like some very natural responses post-trauma, and counselling would help, especially if its of the CBT format. Your husband sounds as if he is responding brilliantly. Sorry you seem to have seen the wrong person last time, but don't give up.
