Hi

I would just like to find out if there is anything i can take whilst breastfeeding as I've got Bipolar disorder. And we found out when baby was 4weeks old now 14 weeks old, that he is down syndrome. I just feel I cannot handle all of this. Use to be on Lilly fluoxetine and topamax.

PLEASE HELP!!!

This is actually a very complex question, depending so much on the detailed history of your bipolar disorder, previous treatment, present condition, and so on. I really think the best thing for you and the baby would be to see a good local psychiatrist, preferably the one who treated you previously, for a re-assessment and a discussion of the detailed issues here. And above all, especially with the sad news to adjust to, try to find someone who can provide CBT counselling, which is excellent for most problems, and equally efective to antidepressants, and, of coruse, no problem dring breast-feeding. )
