Compulsive Overeater
Good day doc,

My life is falling apart at the moment and I'm finally ready to admit that I'm unable to do anything about it by myself. By the age of 13 I was raped by 2 different men, one my grandfather and the other a son of a friend of my parents. I have dealt with these rapes, but during therapy I started to rely on food to get me through every horendous memory that I had to face. Since my therapy started I have gained 40 kg. And I'm only 26. I have recently decided to start taking part in life and have started a new job and started studying. But my compulsive overeating has taken a life of its own and I'm completly unable to stop myself. My relationship with my fiance of 12 years is at a point where he is starting to wonder if I'll ever be healthy again and wondering if he shouldn't perhaps leave me. And who can really blame him, seeing a person you love becoming diabetic and having high blood pressure just because she wont stop eating? I would like to know whether you have, or know where I could find, details about a psychiatrist or psycologist who specialises in eating disorders? I'm joining Weigh Less tomorrow afternoon and hope that this time will be a success. Thank you very much

Your therapist was not very skilled if concentrating on recovering memories, and ignoring the eating disorder / food comfortaing aspect of your problem at the very time you were working on it. Sounds like you are being successfully decisive and positive in other aspects of your personal makeover. Depending on where you are, most Universitry medical schools would have someone interested in eating disorders, and some like Joburg / Tara have had a specialized unit deaing with these.
Weighless ought to be able to help, too. And it sounds as though lady nina's group may also be useful to you.
