Hereditary psychopathy
Hi, is it possilbe to tell what kind of traits a direct family member might have from a person who is a psychopath?
Would the person be more manipulative than normal, have anger problems etc? The only thing i can find on the internet so far is "Psychopathy may be hereditary. The psychopath's immediate family usually suffer from a variety of personality disorders." Any help would be appreciated. Regards Sammy

Overall, with some conditions the inheritance is direct and clear, and exact odds can even be calculated. This is not as tify in the area of psychiatry. In some conditions it is clear that your risk of developing a condition is greater if one parent already has it, and higher again if both parents have it --- but still, you are more likely than not, not to have it. And in some conditions there is some evidence that relatives who do NOT have the condition, may show some milder abnormalities of a similar sort. In regards to psychopathy, the situation is not at all simple, and the summary you have found sounds about right. Remember, too, that such summaries refer to the broad pattern seen over thousands of specific examples. If you are thinking particularly about yourself, or someone you know, then a shrink who knows them and the family can make a more meaningful and less vague assessment based on this particular knowledge.
To use a different example, we know it is more likely to rain in the summer than in the winter, but the likelihood of rain on any particular day is variable, and can best be forecast a the time by a local weatherman
