Narkoanalise
Baie dankie

Hi Jakkie,
Actually, Narcoanalysis is a thoroughly discredited method, not approved by any competent expert organization, extremely old-fashioned, and most experts would consider it pure quackery. Usually, it uses pills or an injection of a heavily sedative drug, though I suppose someone might instead use a stimulant like ritalin or an amphetamine ; the aim is to get you drunk, which would encourage you to talk. These are not recognized or approved uses for these drugs, nor is this an approved dose of ritalin or whatever the stimulant was, and might not be considered safe, by most doctors. Maybe a very old-fashioned shrink, lacking the talent to encourage you to talk and explore matters by normal psychotherapy methods, might use this as a shortcut ; but it's rather like giving you a bottle of brandy to drink, and listening to you talk. There is no good evidence that such talking is actually of any benefit to you, which is one major reason why most shrinks no longer use the method or disapprove of it. And as your own story shows, other people had to tell you about it, because when no longer under the influence of the drug, you often don't remember much or even anything of whatever it was you talked about --- which is hardly useful.
If there are things you really do need to talk about, it's surprising that in over 7 years with this particular doctor, this hasn't yet happened, and that you're still in treatment. A well-trained modern psychotherapist, especially one using CBT ( Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy ) can help you explore all you need to explore, help you identify and focus on the core problems, and solve them, and within weeks or months at most, not years.
