negative postings
Hi CS!!

It is really disappointing to see how many negative response there is from members of the Annex and this forum to many postings -

I would love to know your opinion on why people do this.

Is this because they can be heared and not seen? Or are these people this mean in 'real life'?

I'm sure a large part of it is that they can be anonymous. There was good psychological research showing what a frighteningly high proportion of people, when they thought it was part of an experiment, were prepared to give painful electric shocks to a stranger in a different room, even if they could hear the person scream and protest ( of course there was actually no shock given, it was a set-up to see how far ordinary people would go ). And in terms of helping, research showed if someone fell in a train or bus, if there were only one or two other people there, they'd almost always get up to help. If there was a crowd, most people would not try to help, assuming that somebody else would.
So most of these people wouldn't be likely to be mean in real life ( maybe they think some mean thoughts at times !) --- but hiding behind anonymity, they let rip.
