Post traumatic stress disorder
I have been diagnosed with PTSD. My psychologist has moved far away from here. I desprately need to know more about therapy for this disorder. One person says I need hypno therapy, the other says no!
Is there diferent hypno therapy models, and where can I find out more about it?

Hello Pulani,
Don't worry about hypnotherapy --- no competent expert in PTSD considers hypnotherapy as a useful treatment for it. ( As I have often said, authoritatively, hypnosis is NEVER the best or only treatment for anything ; only occasionally, as PART of a number of treatments, can it be helpful to people ). So don't waste your time exploring a treatment that is NOT suited to PTSD, and fortunately not widely available in SA. There IS evidence that more realisticaly based CBT type therapy ( Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy ) can help PTSD< AND that some drugs usually used for depression, the SSRI family, can help reduce the symptoms as well. You don;t mention whereabouts you are, so I don't know what other resources may be available to you. You don't mention the nature of the trauma which led to your PTSD, and in some instances there are support groups in some of the specific areas, such as for rape victims, which can help.
