scans
Hi. I am a first time mommy2b and things are still new to me. I just heard that the medical aid only pays for two scans. I now want to know how wil the gynea know everything is ok inside? And how will she measure the baby if she doesnt do a scan? I will go for my third check-up on the 26th. What will she do if not a scan?

Dear Olla,
Obviously, this would be a question better directed towards our health24 gynaedoc or cyberdoc ! I think the medical aids may differ as to policies. From my experience, years ago, of obstetrics, I don't see why one would need numerous scans during any normal pregnancy --- for hundeds of years excellent prenatal care was provided, using basic clinical examination and assessment, befoe any form of scan was available. Doctors who perform too many scans are not providing you with extra safety, just wasting everyone's money, for personal profit. If your doctor has any reason to suspect a problem, I'm sure he could get authorization for extra scans if that would be helpful.
