Shoulder pain
hi doc

I had a laparoscopy on friday, had the stitiches out on tuesday. Anyway i was reading up on what they actually did to me (i cant help it i like to know) and they said that chest and shoulder pain is common as they inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide so they can see and work in there.

I had bad shoulder pain after the op, but only on the one side, and didnt associate it with the op at all so when i readt that i was like OOOOOOH.

Can you tell me why it hurts the shoulder and chest?

Cyberdoc may well have the detailed reasons, but it has to do with what we call Referred Pain, and is related to the interesting complexities of the nervous system, so that irritation of the nerves in one part of the body can be experienced as pain or discomfort elsewhere in the body
