The Best Drug for Anxiety
Hi there C.S

Just a quick question. I need a mild drug for anxiety. What would you recommend that is good, effective, and at the same time cost well as non-dependancy.

Another quick question :) Are u still practising as a Shrink?
Just out of curiosity?

Hi tigger,
Actually, one doesn't want a mild drug, but an effective drug, with minimum side-effects. There are really just two types. One is the Benzo's --- the Valium / Diazepam family, though they are sedative and can reduce your performance on driving, etc., and can produce dependency if taken over a considerable time ; and there is one single different drug, Buspirone ( I think there is now a generic variety which would be cheaper and equivalent, just as there are for the Benzos) --- Buspirone is gentler and a bit slower to have its full effect ( you can feel sedated within minutes of taking a benzo ) and has less side-effects. And it is so unlikely to make one dependent on it, that there are cases on record where addicts stole them by mistake, and brought them back to complain !
And as for still practsing, well, practice makes perfect ! I think it's rather nice that the words we use in the medical professions, imply a continuing of practising and improving, rather than just carrying on with what you learned years back. So I'm still a student, too. I think the day one stops being a student is the day one starts to be less effective, at whatver one does.
