Cracked Nose
My -|- er Spaniel recently started developing an extremely dry nose (it's even slightly "cracked" in places)
It looks painfull. I took him to the vet twice in the last month because of an ear infection & the vet was not very concerned about the nose.
Still it looks painfull to me....anybody else had this problem? Is there any ointment I can use (he'll probably lick it off immediately?)
He eats Pedigree pellets during the day & Husky tinned food in the evening. I also give him a spoonfull of Velcote over his food daily as well as the occasional Bob Martin tablet.
Despite the recent ear infection, he is in a great condition, thick shiny coat, very active, always "smiling"...just the cracked snoet that bothers me.

It may not be a problem but you can keep it supple by applying a little vaseline. He may lick some off but it you apply it a few times a day it will prevent drying and further cracking. There is a condition called hard pad seen in animals that have had distemper in the past. They can also develop a hard dry nose that may crack.
