Normal Behaviour?
Dear Doc,

Our 4 yr old male Alsation, seems to want to mate with a 6 month old male BoerBull that we brought home a few days ago. Is this normal behaviour? The Boerbulls sister is also at home but the Alsation shows no interest in her...

Dear Anna
Yes, this is normal behaviour and has nothing to do with reproduction, but more to do with asserting dominance. You may find that you have a problem later on between the two males as they may fight for top dog status. If I were you I would re-home the male puppy to avoid conflict, but if you don't do this you may have to keep them separated later on. Castrating the puppy now may help to reduce tension. Always praise the older dog if he disciplines the puppies and never reprimand him for being dominant or you will have trouble.
