Nursing Dog - Milk seems to be "drying up"
Hi - My Jack Russell had pups on 28 / 01 / 06. All went well. Now, 3 days later, her milk seems to be getting less and less and the puppies are extremely unhappy. Is this possible or am I just being neurotic.

1. What can I use as a replacement / substitute for her milk?
2. How often should the pups be fed? and
3. Is there anything I can give the mom to replenish the milk?

Please help & thanks for the great website and expert advice.

If the puppies are crying a lot and continually moving around and being unhappy, it is quite possible that they are hungry and not receiving adequate amounts of milk. Commercial milk replacement formulas are available from your veterinarian. The puppies should be fed about every two hours. Mom should just receive the best possible diet and plenty of water.
