Spaniel nose discoloration
Hi Doc

My -|- er Spaniel is more or less 3 years old. I feed him Vets Choice and he has a healthy coat and his eyes are clear. I started noticing, some 2 months ago, that his black lips and nose have started discoloring to pink. Is this normal?Whats happening?

My Daschund has a patch on her back where the hair continually falls out. My local vet says its not a skin disorder but its caused by seperation anxiety. What can I do?

Discoloration of the nose in some cases may be normal. In some cases it may also be related to a rejection type reaction called discoid lupus. This may be mild, and may not necessarily need treatment or may become ulcerated and need treatment with ointments or systemic treatments. Unfortunately, because the pigment is removed, the skin will now be much more sensitive to sunburn, and that may become a problem. Without an examination it is difficult to say what exactly the problem is with your dog.

Regarding the dachshund, the details are two sparce for me to give any particular advice. I presume your vet checked the area for ringworm and mite infestation by doing a little scrape of the superficial skin. If not, this should probably be done.
