Hi Philip
How does he/she get out? You need to secure your boundaries so he can't get out. Also take him for daily walks on a lead only, give him chewy toys to keep him occupied and company most of the day. At night he should be kept inside the house to prevent him wandering, if he escapes out of your yard. If he is an entire male then castrating him may help, but bear in mind that wandering is self-rewarding (he meets other dogs, can scavenge for food, etc.)and that it won't help to punish him when he comes home. The best way of stopping him is by keeping him inside or fenced in your yard.
