What type of dog?
My husband and I live in a complex and we are allowed one pet. We have a very nice little garden and we are thinking about getting a small dog. What type of dog should we buy? We need one that is very small, gentle, isn't highly strung, won't dig the garden up and chew everything in sight, doesn't bark alot and would be happy to be alone while we are at work between 8 and 4.

Thank you.

Wow, this is a difficult one. Each person has a different opinion. A nice temperament miniature yorkie could do well. Or a small maltese, but they do yap. You would have to keep it occupied as a puppy because it will cry during the day initially and chew. They are so small as pups, you could probably put it in your handbag and take it to work with you.
I am afraid I can not think of anything else that would not be highly yappy dogs.
Good luck
