I am on day five of Atkins Induction Diet and not faring too well. Contrary to what the book says, I am having difficulties with hunger and cravings and feel a bit weak and deprived. I am determined to continue but am doubtful of whether I'll be able to keep it up for a lifetime. I'd welcome your input as to the long term benefit and safety etc.

Dear Lizzie
To read more about the negative effects of a high-protein, high-fat diet click on 'Diet' and 'Weight loss' and search for the article I published on 'The Atkins Diet' which is based on the Position Paper I prepared for the Association for Dietetics in SA. I am personally in favour of balanced, low-fat, high-fibre diets that use all the food groups. Doing regular aerobic exercise (running, jogging, skipping, cycling, swimming, join a gym or Walk for Life), will also promote healthy weight loss.
Take care
