I suffer from constipation but I am now eating lots of fibre eg: all bran, digestive bran lots of veggies and I drink a lot of water but the problem is that I feel VERY bloated. Please advise about the bloated feeling. What food would make you feel bloated? What food must I avoid?

Dear Reader
When someone starts to use high-fibre foods it is necessary to introduce these foods gradually because your system needs to get used to metabolising such large amounts of dietary fibre. I would, therefore, suggest that you cut down on these high-fibre foods and introduce them one at a time and gradually increase how much you are eating. Keep a food diary and note down when you get bloated so that you can specifically avoid that food. Even good foods can cause negative reactions in different individuals so it is difficult to say which one of these foods is causing your distress. If you find that you cannot eat high-fibre foods which contain wheat, then rather use dried fruit, and fresh fruit and vegetables to stimulate your bowel movements. Some patients find that using a gentle laxative such as Fybogel is also a solution.
