burn more while sick
hey diet doc

i was just wondering if i burn more or less or the same amount of calories while im sick with a cold, coz all i feel like doing is sleeping and sitting around. would i burn the same amount of caloris i would if i was just living my normal moderatly active day?

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. If you don't have a temperature and spend the day resting in bed, then you will use slightly less energy than when you are not resting. The difference would be primarily the energy required for the amount of actual physical activity you do. The rest of your energy requirement (the so-called Basic Metabolic Rate) would be similar because it is used to keep the body processes (breathing, digestion, temperature control, etc) going.
