Burnout syndrome + gastritis
Hi there! I'm currently living in Vienna and have recently been diagnosed with burnout syndrome. On top of that I have just undergone a gastroscopy where the doctors discovered that I have gastritis. It is apparently connected with the burnout syndrome.

I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke. I take Supradyn Multivitamins, gingko biloba and evening primrose oil tablets. Could you please let me know what kind of diet I should be following?

Thanx and kind regards

Dear Petra
Sorry to hear about your problems, but living in foreign parts can be very stressful. I trust that the Austria doctors have prescribed antacids and so-called proton-pump inhibitors (like Losec) to treat the gastritis - if not, then go back to them and ask for medication. The dietary treatment of gastritis and ulcers is very individual - keep a 2 week food diary noting down what foods and beverages you eat and what symptoms they cause, then avoid those foods that cause YOU discomfort. Generally speaking very rich fatty food, very spicy foods and condiments, caffeine-containing beverages (coffee, tea and cola drinks), fizzy drinks and gas-producing vegetables like raw onions, cucumbers, peppers and the cabbage family, should be avoided IF they cause discomfort.
Hope you soon feel better
