Cabbage Juice
Hi Diet Doc,

I would please like some advice on what would be the best juice to drink in aiding a peptic ulcer and gastric reflux. I have been reading on the Internet that cabbage juice is very effective in healing peptic ulcers but do shops sell cabbage juice? and if not, how do I make it if it is going to benefit me then I want to start with it.

I have also heard that Aloe Vera Juice is healing too is that true?

Please can you help me out. I am on Nexium but obviously following a good diet would help the ulcer heal quicker.

Many thanks.

Dear Angel
I have not heard of anyone who sells cabbage juice. You could buy a liquidiser and make your own cabbage juice, but be careful as raw cabbage may cause winds which will make your symptoms worse. I have also not heard if Aloe Vera Juice is beneficial to ulcers. Your medication is very important and you need to take it as prescribed as this will stop the excessive acid production in the stomach that is eroding your gastric lining. As I said to Johan who also asked today about non-medical solutions to ulcers, stress is one of the most important factors in the development of ulcers. If you suffer from ulcers, you will have to experiment with the foods you eat that may cause problems (raw onions, garlic, cucumber, green peppers, cabbage, very spicy foods and condiments, gas-cold drinks, very fatty foods, etc and all alcohol). This is often an individual reaction and you will have to keep a food diary to see what foods cause this problem and then cut them out. To relieve stress I would recommend that you learn relaxing techniques, how to do deep breathing exercises and some form of physical exercise which is also relaxing, such as yoga. Going for brisk walks in the fresh air also helps to relieve tension.
Best regards
