Dear Fausta
I am so sorry to hear of your dear father's problem. I cannot understand that you were not immediately referred to a clinical dietitian who would have helped you work out what your father can eat and how to prepare nutritious foods for him that he can swallow easily. I would still recommend that you consult a clinical dietitian (check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area), so that she/he can monitor what your father is eating and help you with problems. In the meanwhile I would also contact Magda on (011) 203-2000 or 083-603-2231 and ask her about the Nutritional Supplements her company makes. There are special supplements that can be used in cases such as your father. Otherwise, he needs to eat milk and yoghurt (add additional fat-free milk powder to boost the protein content), strained soups, custard, soft jellies, ice cream, fruit juice, pureed cooked or canned fruit (remove pips and peel), pureed cooked vegetables, purred cooked meat and soft porridges (maize meal, Maltabella, creamy meal, etc). Add milk and honey to porridges to thin the consistency and boost the nutrient content.
Holding thumbs for both of you
Best regards
