Crave salt and spices
Hi DietDoc,

I have a small problem. I tend to crave salt at night time. I can have my supper with minimal salt but then afterwards if I am still hungry would eat a rice cake with thinly spread tamatoe sauce and put a dash of salt or spices such as steak and chop spice or Aromat.

Is this my body's way to tell me I lack something?

Also, does spices contain fat? Why I ask is because I read on the Aromat container that it does contain fat.

Dear Lucille
You may be ingesting so little salt or sodium that you develop this craving. Unless you suffer from hypertension, you can use small amounts of salt on your food (recommended intake is about 2,5g per day), especially when it is hot or if you sweat a lot and thus lose large amounts of sodium. The 3g of fat per 100g of Aromat probably represents the emulsifier that is added to prevent clogging. If you use 1g of Aromat (a standard sprinkling) on your rice cake, then you would only be ingesting 0,03g of fat which is so little that you can disregard it.
Best regards
