Diet plan for malformed kidneys
Hello Diet-Doc.

I have a young male friend who is 22 years old and has a malformed kidney. Is there any site on the internet that you can recommend which will contain a good description of the type of diet he should follow as well as provide menu's with some variety? My friend cannot afford to consult a dietitian in private practice and has given up on his public hospital.

Thank you,

Dear Marcus
In the case of kidney problems it is essential that your friend should scrape together the money to consult a private dietitian at least once because the type of diet he needs HAS TO BE worked out on an individual basis taking his condition, medications and all other individual factors into account. This is not a diet that can be obtained from general recommendations posted on the Internet. Visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: and click on "Find a Dietitian" to help him find a dietitian in your area. Otherwise he MUST insist that the public hospital lets him speak to the dietitian at the hospital. This is not the moment to give up, but to fight to get the right service.
Best regards
