Eating Patterns
Hi there. Over the last few weeks, I began to develop what I would call a problem with normal eating patterns. I engaged in some skipping of meals, sometimes only eating dinner and have lost weight as a result of it. I realise that it was not a healthy option and resumed normal eating as of Monday this week. Since about mid-afternoon on Tuesday, I began experiencing a lot of gas and the urge to go to the loo in terms of bowel movements when eating. Is this attributed to the sudden change in eating again and that my body's now getting three meals and healthy options again? What would you recommend? I'm not underweight, I have checked my BMI based on being 1,62cm tall and weighing just over 54kg and it says normal. But people around me are making me worry about it.

Dear C
The change in bowel habits since Tuesday could be due to you resuming a normal diet. However, if you continue to have too many bowel movements, then a medical checkup may be prudent because this could be an infection or another problem like irritable bowel disease. Your present BMI = 20,6 which is actually below the ideal of 22 for adult women, so Please don't try losing more weight and starting to eat irregular meals. Tell the people around you to concentrate on their own weights and figures and to leave you alone. Don't start an eating disorder as this can cause dreadful suffering. Eat a normal, balanced diet with at least 3 meals a day and do some regular exercise to be fit and healthy.
