If I eat 6 large yolks a day will it give me all the iron I need for the day or does it hardly supply any iron? My iron levels were really low but the doc says they fine now. It is the eggs?

Dear Mandy
Egg yolks are rich in iron, but I would not really recommend that you eat 6 a day because egg yolk contains so much cholesterol ! If you can eat meat and liver, you would be getting sufficient iron which is even more bioavailable than in egg yolk. If you are a vegetarian and don't eat meat, then it is best to have 4 eggs a week as recommended by the SA Heart Foundation and to take an iron supplement such as FeroFolic.
