Fish only diet
My friend has, over the last 4 months, lost quite a bit of weight (close to 10 kgs according to her). She says that she has been living on breakfast of All-Bran flakes, some fruit as a snack, and then fish with veggies for lunch and dinner. She either eats the tuna in water, or sardines or steamed hake. She says that this meal plan, with lots of water, has contributed to her weight loss. Please tell me if this diet can indeed work, although I can see it has worked for her, and also if this is a healthy way to lose weight. I need to lose about 10-12kgs myself, and this diet doesnt seem hard to follow at all.

Dear Elaine
There is not reason why your friend's diet that is mainly based on fish and vegetables should not cause weight loss as long as the energy content of the diet is less than she requires on a daily basis. You can certainly use this type of diet (fish is an excellent food being rich in vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids), but just make sure that you also add 3 cups of fat-free milk or yoghurt or cottage cheese to the intake so that you obtain the 1000 mg of calcium that adult women need every day. Also remember that daily aerobic exercise aids weight loss.
Best regards
