Food allergy?
I think my son, aged two, is allergy to polony. He has had diarrhoea on and off with what looked like blood and mucus, however every time we have it analysed they come up with nothing. We have noticed that when he eats polony about two hours later the diarrhoea is back with the ‘ blood’  in his stools. Do you think this is a food allergy, and if so to what? Second question, is this actually blood in his stool, because when it’ s analysed they can’ t seem to come up with anything.

Dear Ang
It is possible that you son is allergic to one of the many different ingredients that go into making polony (meat, fat, cereal, soya flour, spices, colourants, flavourants, preservatives, etc, etc). Check the label and see how many ingredients are added to polony. Your child could be allergic to the cereal, the soya, the colourants, the flavourants, the preservatives, the thickeners, emulsifiers, etc. If he does not react with diarrhoea to ANY other food, then the easiest solution is to avoid polony (it is in any case not a very nutritious food for growing children). As I have not seen his stools I cannot comment on the blood and mucous, but if he should start developing these symptoms with other foods then it is essential to have allergy tests done.
I hope you can pinpoint what is causing this problem.
Best regards
