Food and excercise
Hi Doc
I have started gym recently in light of a significant weight gain over the last few months. I think the weight gain has mainly been due to a lack of excercise and too much eating out and beer drinking.
I am cutting beer out of my diet. I am italian and mainly eat pasta's, meat and salads. It has never been a problem for me before. Do i need to significantly change my diet? What can i do to speed up the weight loss process? I am doing cardio and a little weight training. Should I take fat burning tabs?
Please advise.
Ps. I'm 29, I weigh 77 and am 1.75mt tall. My BMI is too high. I normally weigh about 70 kg's.

Dear Sideways
Your present BMI = 25,2 which is just slightly above the upper limit of normal. When you weigh 70 kg your BMI is an ideal 22,9. So cut down on the beer as much as possible, stick to eating low-fat Italian foods (the salads, grilled fish, pasta without heaps of cheese, Bolognaise made with lean mince), but cut your portions by 1/3. Do as much cardio exercise as possible as this burns more energy than working with weights and try to exercise for 30 min a day or 60 min every second day. You don't need to take fat burning tabs as most of these are not really effective - it's usually the starvation diets that are distributed with the tablets that cause the weight loss anyway. So eat and drink less and do plenty of cardio and you should lose those 7 kg in about 1,5 months.
Good luck
