Could you please give us some advice on a sensible diet for an elderly man (in his 70's) recovering from Hepatitis A.

Dear Hazey
Basically the diet should be low in fat and high in protective nutrients to spare the liver and promote recovery. Click on 'Diet' and 'You are what you eat' and 'Healthy heart' and read the articles on how to reduce the intake of fatty foods. If you click on 'Diet Basics' and read the articles under 'Healthy balance' you will obtain information about fruits, vegetables and low-fat diary products plus unprocessed grains and cereals which contain plenty of protective nutrients. The use of vitamin supplements such as Essentiale which also contains glucuronic acid can assist the liver to recover. If he is feeling nauseous then the use of a meal replacement may be indicated. Phone Magda on (011) 203-2000 or 083-603-2231 and ask her about the Nutritional Supplements that may be beneficial.
I do hope the patient will feel much better soon.
Best regards
