Dear Irene
Because of the complexity of your mom-in-law's condition, I would strongly advise her to consult a clinical dietitian (check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to sscharf@nhcltd.com or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area), who will help her to increase her dietary fibre intake (which helps for the IBS), without including gluten in her diet. One of the most important factors in IBS is stress. I would recommend that she should learn relaxing techniques, how to do deep breathing exercises and some form of physical exercise which is also relaxing, such as yoga.
I do hope she will soon feel better.
Best regards
