Longlife Milk
I would like to know: I have heard that longlife milk contains little iron or no iron, in comparison to fresh milk? Is that true? What is your opinion on it and what advice can you give me. Is it better to drink fresh milk and how does freezing effect fresh milk? Please give your opinion on that. Thank you kindly.
Dear Sunflower
Generally speaking no one drinks milk for it's iron content (0.1 mg per 100 ml). Compared to excellent sources of iron like liver (6.3 mg/100g), milk is far too low in iron to be even considered as a 'source' of iron, much less a 'good source'. There is no reason why you can't drink Longlife milk as it contains just as much protein and calcium as fresh milk (the 2 main nutrients in milk of all kinds). Freezing also does not affect the protein or calcium contents of milk.
Best regards
