Dear MJNel
I find it strange that this is the second time in the last week or so, that a Reader has told me that they started gaining weight after having their appendix removed. I have not personally ever read any scientific papers to the effect that removal of the appendix can cause weight gain, but here are 2 cases that report the same thing. I can't hazard a guess as to what could have triggered your weight gain and if it was associated with the op or not. I can only suggest that you consult an Endocrinologist (a medical dr who specialises in hormonal imbalances) to find out if you suffer from some hormonal imbalance that is driving your weight gain. Once we have a diagnosis we can look at what needs to be done to your weight. When you see the dr discuss treatment options including the use of products like Xenical and/or the possibility of having a gastric bypass.
Holding thumbs that the dr can pinpoint what is causing your weight gain.
