Dear Elena
Pregnant women should not drink unpasteurised milk or foods such as cheeses that are made from unpasteurised milk (check on the labels) as such milk could contain Listeria or Brucellosis bacteria which could cause abortions. Eating raw eggs which could be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria and biltong or raw meat which could be contaminated with tape worm, should also be avoided. Don't eat raw fish (sushi) as raw fish contains a so-called anti-nutrient that prevents uptake of Vit B1. Don't use any foods that are not fresh or which could be spoilt as this can cause stomach upsets, something you don't need while pregnant. Don't take any supplements, including herbal ones that have not been approved by the dr or gynae who is treating you. Pregnant women should also not take vitamin or mineral supplements that contain more than the Recommended Daily Allowance of vit A as excessive vit A can be teratogenic to the baby. Check with your dr before you take any supplement.
Enjoy your pregnancy
