PROTEIN SHAKES AND KIDS
HI, I WAS WONDERING WHAT EFFECT IF ANY WOULD PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT SHAKES HAVE ON SAY A THREE YEAR OLD. I'M USING THEM MYSELF AND HAVE BEEN READING THE INGREDIANTS, I'M NO DIETICIAN, BUT SURLY IF THERE WAS SOMTHING BAD IT WOULD STATE 'NOT FOR PEOPLE UNDER THE AGE OF ....". I'M CURIOUS, BECAUSE MY BOY REALLY AVOIDS CHICKEN, MEAT, (PROPER) FISH, THE ONLY FISH HE EATS IS FISH FINGERS. BUT HE LOVES MILKSHKES AND THE SORT SO I'M SURE I'D HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING HIM TO DRINK THE SUPPLEMENTS. JUST CURIOUS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE FACTS. THANKS
Dear Dad
Please check my answer to "Trainin" posted yesterday: Most medical meal or protein supplements do carry the warning 'Not for use by children' and some specify an age limit like 2 years. Many protein supplements sold in gyms, etc, do not carry warnings although this should be mandatory. I think your 3-year-old is probably getting sufficient protein from the fish he eats and from milk. Children of 3 only require 16g of protein a day, so I would not recommend the use of protein supplements as the very high protein content in these products could put a strain on the child's kidneys. Please keep in mind that I reply to postings on this Message Board, the day after they have been posted!
